In Real Life

One of Toronto's most underrated accomplished and respected artists Wio-K, is a T.O. original and has helped shape the city's identity and give it it's distinctive sound. For true heads in the city who know what time it is, T.O. has a very significant bunch who are contributing good music that make us stand out and proudly say this is Toronto Hip Hop.

Member of The Mighty Monolith Wio-K has recently completed his debut album entitled "In Real Life." The album contains 12 official songs as well as a hidden track, The production on the album consists of some real local and international heavy hitters such as; Korry Deez of Irs (Monolith), Salty Jackson, Kam, Lyve, T.R.A.C.K.S of Irs and Big Black Lincoln and others, guest appearances on the album by Grimace Love , Frank N'Dank and Tasha Rozez.

The hip-hop masses have waited far too long for this project!

The album is a classic, adding, once again, to the legacy of Toronto's dominance in the world of true-to-life, masterful hip-hop music making. Wio-K is poised to lead the way to a future where Canadian urban artists become huge successes in the marketplace.

You Must Learn: a Prophetic Poetic podcast

The opening words of this podcast are found from an interview I did with Relic The Oddity in December 2003. Relic, along with several local artists known to myuniversity, got together for a time of fellowship and freestyle. During exam break at the university radio station (whaddup Radio Laurier) we took over the booth to do a special show that emphasized the community we had found through conscious hiphop.Geographically speaking, Relic was an outsider compared to the other eight or so emcees, but Relly fit right in - engaging people in conversation and coming up with the second best punch lines in the session (can anyone really touch Shad??). September 2009 saw the release of Relly's sophomore album, The Green Light. You can take my word that it is a fantastic album that embodies many of the elements 'real heads' are looking for. Regardless of industry positioning, promo, swagger and what not, it is one of the best and truest hip-hop releases this year. So while, y'all are waking up from your nap...
We at Prophetic Poetic decided that it was necessary to show the world that
The Green Light is no surprise. You Must Learn: Relic contains jams from his debut record, It's All Relative, early tunes, mixtape appearances, production for some fierce emcees as well as guest spots (whaddup Sev & Shad). It is a true pleasure to call Relic a friend, and a great pleasure to piece this collection together. Enjoy.

Black Daddies Club Presents: Breaking Bread - Phase 4 Driftwood

What's Going On...

Phase 4 aimed at the Driftwood community starts tonight.

"Breaking Bread" provides a space for young Black fathers to discuss their experiences as fathers, to get emotional and social support from other fathers, and to learn strategies from each other for strengthening their contributions to their family and community.

3 facilitated weekly group discussions will capitalize on the social-cultural significance of gathering together for a meal to create a relaxed and neutral setting where men can share their experiences. The sessions are informal and interactive and include a film screening which are the stimulus for the conversation.

To register, please contact Patrick Shaw (Manager) at Falstaff Community Center at 416-395-7924.
